07/21/2017

After the success of Crinum Latifolium products, Doctor - Pharmacist Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram continued to conquer other precious Vietnamese herbal plants to produce medicines and health supplements to support diseasestreatment and health protection.

There will be more products fromresearch of medicinal herbs

I met Dr. Tram - Director of Thien Duoc Co., Ltd - in the early days of May, when she was busy with a series of plans to finish her researches and new products’ testing, after the success of Crinum Latifolium’s products for uterine fibroids and prostatic hypertrophy treatment. She was in Hanoi to attend the meeting of the Medical Ethics Committee held by the Ministry of Health on May 20th 2017 about the clinical trial of Crilominte - a drug to support the treatment of liver cancer - which she presides over, at the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital.
With previous studies, Dr. Tram has systematically and fully demonstrated the biological activity of Crinum Latifolium extracted products, in which Crila tablets help increasing the number and percentage of immune cells. Peripheral blood and spleen carry markers of T lymphocytes CD3, CD4, CD8a, CD8b CD16/56, increasing anti-cancer immunity. With myeloid cells, Crila increases hematopoiesis, proliferation of early lymphoid progenitor cells, commonin bone marrow, antioxidant.

Not only Crinum Latifolium L., Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram is also conducting the project KC.10.07/16-20 to research the production of hard capsules from purslane, amaranth and clinical trials on hemorrhoids patients. This is a project under the key national science and technology program for the period 2016-2020.
Dr. Tram shared, for many years, she has received funding from the Ministry of Science and Technology, on the other hand, she has self-funded to research and invest in equipment to produce drugs and health supplements from precious herbals plants. “In order to be able to extract it into a drug or health supplements, it is necessary to understand what active ingredients the plant has and what disease it can treat. It is important to determine what the active chemical ingredients and solvents are, rather than using the whole hearbal plant to hope for a cure," she shared.
The results of Dr. Tram's 10 years of research on purslane and amaranth used for digestive diseases (such as hemorrhoids) are the basis for Thien Duoc to produce health supplements in the form of hard capsules - a product successful tested stage 1 and 2.

VND 10 billion - starting sales in the US market
Clinical studies by the Ministry of Health prove that Crila works well for most men with prostatic hypertrophy; good results on 89,18% of clinical trial participants, with no side effects. From internationally published articles by Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram about Crinum latifolium L., Mr. Ralph Neate Ralp - 60 years old living in California, USA, with prostate problems - went to Vietnam to find her.
Mrs. Sue McKinney - Director of Crinum Heath Company - said that Mr. Ralp had used many types of modern medicines and herbs to treat diseases but had not been really effective. “When using Crila, he felt the effect within the first month. After three months, he was able to sleep through the night, not having to wake up to go to the bathroom as before. His doctor reported that the PSA was down," Mrs. McKinney said.

Currently, Crila products have entered the US market - where about 50% of men aged 50 have symptoms of prostatic hypertrophy- for 1 year; sales are currently 10 billion dong per year. "This is not a significant number, but with a difficult market like the US, being allowed to import has been a great success," said Dr. Tram.
At the closing ceremony of the KC.06 program, when talking about the results of the state-level pilot production project "Completing the technological process of producing Crila Forte hard capsules to meet export demand (2012-2015)" , Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Cong Tac highly appreciated: “Crila Forte product has entered the US, indeed I am very surprised. The number is not very much, but this is a good thing."
This is a great encouragement for scientist Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram. However, for her, the greatest joy is that the patients are treated and theirhealths are getting better. She shared: “I have high blood pressure, so I am researching medicine for myself. I see myself as a tester. Normally my blood pressure is 160-170 but when I take the supplement I make, it drops to 120-130. I will try to bring this product to the market soon. My biggest wish is to let people know about products originating from the pinnacle of science and technology for their health care, avoidinglosing money but still not treated well.”
